Lowes Paints (American Tradition - Olympic) or Home Depot (Behr - Glidden)?

Im in the process of painting a new construction house. Can not afford the $4500 labor cost that I was quoted. Wondering which brand of paint will be best to use. American Tradition, Olympic, Behr or Glidden. I'm planning on using a Wagner Paint Crew as much as possible.

ThanksLowes Paints (American Tradition - Olympic) or Home Depot (Behr - Glidden)?
No offense, but I would rent a sprayer if I was doing the job. I've applied thousands of gallons of paint, and in my opinion, Wagner, makes great Land Fill.

I prefer Behr, but usually buy away from Home Stores. Porter Paints is one I use here in Florida. Certainly there are other quality paints, such as Sherwin Williams.

Be prepared to pay for quality however. Anything less will have you cursing after the fact.

Rev. StevenLowes Paints (American Tradition - Olympic) or Home Depot (Behr - Glidden)?
Behr has worked great and lasted a long time when i have used it, but be sure to prime it first, it gives years of life to paintjob.
I used Behr and was satisfied with it for the walls. I would not recommend it for the ceilings. We used Behr for the ceilings and had to repaint them 3x because we could see roller marks and can still see some. I think it dries too fast. I'd go higher quality for the ceilings.
Behr paint just received the #1 rating in this months Consumer Reports Magazine. I used it interior and exterior 8 years ago on my home, and it still looks great. It is not cheap, but not as expensive as alot of the other paints. You really do get what you pay for in a paint brand. I'd rather pay more and get a really professional looking job! Good Luck!
I didn't get very good coverage with Behr last time I used it. I've always liked and had good luck with Sherwin Williams.
None of the above I prefer Sherwin-Williams ';Pro'; series, much better coverage and longevity.

and i like behr paint.
I was always a big fan of Behr paint but recently used the American Tradition and was very happy with the results.

When I bought my house the previous owners painted all the walls bright mint green and I was able to to do one good coat with no problems. The kitchen was a little trickier only because I used a yellow color but 2 coats it covered very well.

I used eggshell finish for the bedrooms, living room and hallway.

And semi gloss for bathroom, kitchen and my son's room.

All the walls have held up to regular scrubbing and the abuse of a 4 year old and dog.

I had a ';paint party'; to help paint my house. I had 4 people over ordered pizza and drinks we had it done in a day. I have a smaller house but it was much cheaper than to pay someone
Consumer Reports says Sears has the best paint- and I think Shewin Williams makes it.
I use behr on my own home
of the ones you listed go with american traitions, its made by valspar which is a very good paint.Iam a painting contractor and I use valspar paint very regularly. I have very little trouble with it and works well in every way.

Which paint brand is better to use, Behr or Glidden? ?

Most of my family uses Behr.Which paint brand is better to use, Behr or Glidden? ?
i have been a painter for 25 years and i find both behr and gliddens to be nothing but garbage. if you want a good quality paint buy either benjamin moore and pratt and lambert but if you want the best farrow and ball blows them all away. if you are going to take the time to paint why not use a top quality product and deal with an independently owned store instead of these box storesWhich paint brand is better to use, Behr or Glidden? ?
I used Behr on my redwood deck (semi-transparent stain) %26amp; really didn't like it. Never used Glidden. I wish I could remember the name of the paint my neighbor uses, it's the best. But it's not either of these. Sorry.
Out of those 2 Behr but I prefer Benjamin Moore over all the rest. Both the 2 you mentioned are pretty watery so will definitely need two coats and you may still end up with spots showing through.
I tried Behr years ago and found it to be thin and watery so I went back to Glidden which I always used to use. Lately I have been using the Lowe's brand which I really like.
Behr is very good paint BUT their primer and ceiling paint are garbage.

Helpful hint: Tint your primer to the same color as your paint so you may save a coat of paint.
I much prefer Lowe's Olympic to the brands you named.

But Behr is much better than Glidden hands down, because of how well it covers and its texture.
behr....I've used glidden a few times becsause the price was lower. It sucks, leaves drip marks on the wall and pealks off easily.
I like Behr better because it adheres to more surfaces easily.
i like behr, i love the color selection, and its smoothe.
Behr...very superior. I used it myself.
I rather use Behr
behr is way better

  • Which would you pick for exterior paint... Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore or Glidden?

Used for Exterior house paintWhich would you pick for exterior paint... Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore or Glidden?
I like Behr the best. An excellent, thick paint. **Note: NO brand of paint will last without proper preparation. Remove any rotted wood. Scrape, sand, prime first. Also, darker colors in direct sun tend to not last as long, due to heat absorption.Which would you pick for exterior paint... Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore or Glidden?
I have painted for 20yrs and Sherwin Williams is the best paint for the money. They have a huge range of quality paints at prices that accommodate your budget. The problem with Behr is it has one level of quality and one price. Very generic.

Behr paint, available at Home Depot is great paint for the money. My husband is a remodeler and uses it all the time. Others mentioned are also good. Sherwin Williams is grossly expensive.

There is also a new line of paint available at Menard's...also very good and great price!
sherwin williams. They donated a bunch of paint to repaint the outside of my major's department at my school and it looks really nice.
You cannot go wrong with any of those brands' top of the line product.
thanks buff, it looks like i'll go with bher paints

Which paint brand is better? behr or glidden?

Im having trouble deciding; I've seen numerous websites debating this but don't know the right paint to use on my new house.Which paint brand is better? behr or glidden?
    Behr is better

If You ask me my fave brand of paint, and I have used many

is the Pure Performance line by Pittsburgh paint.

It is a no V.O.C. (Volitile organic compound)

Which is virtually odourless. It is a lot better for your health as well because it doesn't off gas toxinsWhich paint brand is better? behr or glidden?
The brand of paint is not as important as the amount of ';solids'; in the paint. The solid content is what dictates the quality or coverage of the paint. Each manufacturer has several grades of paint or ';price points';. The decision you need to make is how many coats of paint you want to put on and how durable the paint is.The simple answer is do not buy the cheapest grade go for middle to high and you can ask to have a can opened to see how thick it is. If it appears watery then go to the next level or higher.
Paint is paint mostly and it comes down to prep. first and paint second if you want to shop at Home Depot you can... but I find that Lowe's is a better and a cleaner place plus they seem to be more helpful Olympic and Val spar have been some of my better experiences painting, I don't do it professionally but I have lots of paiter friends and I get good advise from them Good luck
After 3 years in the paint business, four years in the Navy painting everything that did not move, and 20 years painting houses, etc., I have tried them all. I go for Glidden (Dulux) any day of the week. Sherwin Williams pulls my arms out of the sockets, Behr is too weak, and Glidden is just right.
Whatever brand you choose don't get it from a home center. Go to a paint supply store such as Sherwin Williams. The paints supplied to Home Depot and Menards are formulated for them exclusively and are made a little cheaper to keep the price down.
Both are of course excellent. And as in the old debate ';Chevy versus Ford'; there is no one answer for everyone. But you knew that :-)

I prefer Behr (both interior and exterior). Moreover, Consumer Reports rates Behr better.
I believe that behr is overrated just like home depot. I would choose to use glidden over behr anyday. However, my first choice is PPG, Manor hall line.
Behr has mildew resistance in it where as glidden dose not. It will cover better has well. With the current rebate at Home Depot it is cheaper.
I think Sherwin Williams is the best but if I had to choose between those two, I'd vote for Behr.
I use to use only Glidden but since I've been using the oops! paint from home depot Behr is much better.
i've always used behr and never had a problem

I want to emulsion my house and want to know which make of paint is the best ie dulux glidden etc?

If you are a DIYer ordinary Dulux emulsion (rather than the thicker trade version) would be the best. Gliddens is owned by Dulux and it is ok, but not as good. If you want colours to last longer and the maintenance cycle to be extended as long as possible then use Dulux. If your repainting next year or two it doesn't matter, Johnstone, Leyland, butnot any designer paint like Farrow and Ball etc. They are rubbish.I want to emulsion my house and want to know which make of paint is the best ie dulux glidden etc?
Where do you live? Paint brands vary from country to country.

In Canada, the best brands in my opinion are Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Pratt %26amp; Lambert. Mid-range brands include CIL-Dulux, Behr, and Sears. Crappamundo brands include Glidden (the most overrated paint brand I can think of), Walmart, and most store brands (except Sears, which is surprisingly good for the price). Kilz is a good primer brand. Wood-Kote is a good brand of stain.

Edit to add: don't cheap out on paint. If you have to repaint every two or three years instead of every ten or if you have to apply eight coats instead of two, you're not saving money.I want to emulsion my house and want to know which make of paint is the best ie dulux glidden etc?
emulsion inside or outside ? it really does make a difference

read info at paint aisle sometimes there is a chart that lists properties about the paint and you can tick the boxes

    things like..... washable

.......durable i.e.to be used in a quiet area ( not many reasons for scratches or dents ) or

if for instance , an entrance where there is a lot of usage lots of opportunities to scuff, scratch mark)

tick most boxes tn particular catagory. bingo

    choose shade and buy it
We always use Dulux inside %26amp; out but if outside cannot use emulsion as would not tolerate weather conditions.Use Dulux gloss on woodwork %26amp; Dulux Weathershield if painting cement render.Paint varies by huge amounts money-wise so shop around first.Have used it for years %26amp; on odd occasions switched to different brand %26amp; always, always regretted it
    Johnson's or Homebase's own.

Dulux is good but ludicrously over-priced.
I would recommend Dulux as the best paint for all decorating jobs

Behr, Glidden or Ralph Lauren paint?

Which costs the leased amount and which one is the better quality paint? Which is the best over all??Behr, Glidden or Ralph Lauren paint?
I have my personal preferences, but I will reserve my opinion for the end of this. I am a professional re-modeler, and former paint store employee - we sold Glidden, Pittsburgh, and a store brand. The better the brand recognition, no matter what for, the more expensive it is. Most brands have more than one line - Pittsburgh and Glidden have at least three. One line will have more titanium for better coverage, and another will have more driers for a quicker re-coat. Their bottom line has less solids and binders, so the paint is less washable, and less titanium, but more driers to make it quicker to re coat. The brand name is no longer visible once the paint is on the wall, so what's the real point? The higher the titanium white pigment concentration, the better the coverage. The higher the concentration of ';driers';, the more quickly you can repaint, paint trim, or use the room. On the other hand, the more driers, the more important it will be that you paint one entire wall before taking any kind of break. My personal preference is Behr - less trash in the paint, so less bumps to pick off the wall, and less to clog the sprayer when we do large commercial jobs.Behr, Glidden or Ralph Lauren paint?
Ralph Lauren paint is overpriced, and not good quality.

Behr is aimed at do-it-yourselfers. It's ok.

Glidden is mainly marketed for pro painters. It's a great paint.
We used Behr and have had good results. For best results of any paint, prime with Kilz first, you get a great finish with your paint.
in my opinion behr is the best choice hands down but you may want to go with a pro store like sherwin williams or porter paints they are both excellent and i have had better luck with them matching colors and if you want to clean the paint easily you will need a egg shell or satin sheen and be sure to use quality brushes and rollers they make the job easier and it will look a lot better

    have fun
we used behr paint and were happy with it.
I like Behr ALOT! If not, I would go for Ralph Lauren but Behr was reasonable and good quality!

    Has anyone used Glidden paint?

I have a swatch from Glidden (found at Home Depot) and it's called Seal Grey, but for some reason I can't find that color on the Glidden website? Anyone use this paint brand or even more specifically this color??Has anyone used Glidden paint?
used Gliddens not impressedHas anyone used Glidden paint?
I have used glidden, Valspar (Lowes) and Behr (home depot)

best paint I ever used was Sherwin williams super paint, its great.

Second choice is Behr not glidden or Valspar
If you have the swatch bring it to a paint supplier. they can scan it and mix it for you
We have used Glidden, and found you needed 3 coats, even over light colours. We bought it at Walmart. I haven't seen that colour though.

Anyone know any good green paint colors from Behr or Glidden?

my room is small, and does not get much light. I love bright, rich greens but I want to go lighter so the room looks more spacious and becomes more bright. please help. pictures would be great as well :)Anyone know any good green paint colors from Behr or Glidden?
Your computer monitor may not show colors the same way they are meant to be. Green is a funky color that runs from a blueish to a goldish to a blackish tone. Glidden and Behr will match anything you want. I suggest you go to a fabric store and get 1/2 yard of several shades of green...tack them to the wall see what floats your canoe.Anyone know any good green paint colors from Behr or Glidden?
this one from behr is called peridot http://www.myperfectcolor.com/Match-of-B鈥?/a>

When painting kithcen cabinets, after sanding and applying Glidden Gripper primer, what is best paint to use? ?

I want to make sure they are not sticky when done? When painting kithcen cabinets, after sanding and applying Glidden Gripper primer, what is best paint to use? ?
I have used a lot of paints over the years %26amp; I can honestly say behr paint is the best I've ever used, you can get it at home depot!!When painting kithcen cabinets, after sanding and applying Glidden Gripper primer, what is best paint to use? ?
Oil based paints are more durable for cabinets and are non-blocking by nature but takes longer to dry. If you want to use a latex (water based) finish ALWAYS ask for one that is non-blocking. Non-blocking paint will not stick together once cured. I'm sure you've seen areas where a door and jamb meet and the paint peels onto the surface...or a shelf where you put a box on it and it sticks to the shelf...that is what happens when you don't use a non-blocking material. Sherwin Williams SuperPaint Gloss and ICI's Dulux Ultra Gloss are non-blocking interior latex finishes that would work well. Good Luck!!!

Have Glidden changed paint formula this year?

Bought 3 tins of Glidden Seed Pearl 3 months ago, and used a tin last night and realized it's a SLIGHTLY lighter color as a year ago. Got an old tin out , and number formulas are different. Took them back to homedepot, where I was told the numbers are different cos Glidden change their formulas every 10 yrs or so...even though they call it the same name...huh..sound right to you?Have Glidden changed paint formula this year?
Actually, yes, it does sound right. I'm actually a QA Manager for one of Glidden's competitors. It is very likely that the formula changed. Could have been a change such as a raw material difference due to a supplier or cost savings, reduction of VOC (volatile organic compounds) per government regulations, or just plain old product improvement. As far as the slightly lighter color, that can be due to several reasons such as you using two different lot #s. One lot can be on one end of the spec and the other on the opposite end. We always recommend mixing different lot #s to have a more uniform color when applying your paint, but in your case that would have been impossible. After a year, touching up an area usually result in having to repaint the entire area with your new lot #.Have Glidden changed paint formula this year?
Don't know about the formula changing but paint differs in shade/color from batch to batch. That's why it's recomended that you mix all the ';tins'; together before you start to get a consistant shade/color.

  • I had purchase glidden Cleveland Cavaliers Team Paint and when i put it on the one wall the color was off the?

maroon was more of a normal red and the blue was not navy enough like the brochure. Will home depot take it back?

I did use the tinted primer (Gripper)I had purchase glidden Cleveland Cavaliers Team Paint and when i put it on the one wall the color was off the?
First.. you should use white primer. Second ,do paint sample on white peace of paper , dry it out and mach with original Cavaliers colours. If it matches, you did domething wrong, if it doesnt match... bring it back to the store and show them your sample on paper :)I had purchase glidden Cleveland Cavaliers Team Paint and when i put it on the one wall the color was off the?
Using the tinted primer was fine. One thing you didn't mention was whether or not the color matched in the store. I'm willing to bet it did. The issue, more than likely, is how the color looks in the room with the rest of the colors in the room as well as the light in the room. As someone else mentioned, I recommend getting a quart of each color and painting it on poster board and placing these poster boards on the walls that will have that color and then see how the color looks in the room during the day and at night. This will give you the best indication of how the color is actually going to look.

Can Glidden paint be used outdoor... the interior kind?

The guy at home depot told us that any Glidden paint can be used indoor or outdoor..... I have fallen in love with Bonjour Beige and Saddlery.... but after thinking about it and looking around I am starting to doubt it can be used outdoors. Does anyone know? Can Glidden paint be used outdoor... the interior kind?
You can use it - it just will not hold up at all. Expect to repaint very frequently. Can Glidden paint be used outdoor... the interior kind?
While there have been many advancements in coatings, most manufacturers have different products for interior and exterior. These include fungicides, additives to slow the damaging UV rays so that the color won't fade, etc.

The good news is that the colors you have fallen in love with should be available in ana exterior coating. With computerized color matching, while Glidden makes good products, you can get a match with other manufacturers as well.
No outdoor paint has UV protection to prevent it from peeling

If I'm using Glidden paint in eggshell, what are the differences in Base 1, Base 2, Base 3?

The Bases are the pigments in the paint to accept different depths of colors.

A pale yellow would use base 1

a mid range yellow base 2

    a deep brugandy base 3

(Just bought some Glidden that's what the guy told me)

Eggshell is the sheen it's 1 step over flat.

    Flat

    eggshell

    satin

    semi gloss

    high gloss

Eggshell is the most forgiving for not so perfect walls with a bare hint of sheen.

The sheen is the reflective value. If I'm using Glidden paint in eggshell, what are the differences in Base 1, Base 2, Base 3?
I picked up a quart of Glidden to do a bathroom ceiling. Since the ceiling was white, and no color change was required, I just grabbed a quart, paid for it, and left the store. When I started to spread the paint it acted like there was no pigment in it. Checked the can, sure enough, Base 3. There is barely any white pigment in the deeper bases. I spread the rest of the material so the preservative properties of the paint would still be effective. Another coat, this time with Ultra White, did the trick. Lesson - make sure you have the right base for the color you've chosen!

What causes a freshly painted wall to peel when dry.(.latex indoor paint by glidden)?

i took the masking tape off very carefully and the paint peeled right off with it.......in fact, i can peel the whole wallWhat causes a freshly painted wall to peel when dry.(.latex indoor paint by glidden)?
Ugh....I feel your frustration. I have run into this problem from time to time, too. I think it's just the nature of latex paint, to some extent. However, I have found two different ways to avoid the problem you mention. One is to remove the masking tape while the paint is still damp and hasn't really ';set'; yet, before it has a chance to adhere to the tape. The other is to use a single-edge razor blade to run along the edge before you remove the tape so that you basically cut a line of separation between the tape and the paint.

I've done a lot of painting, but I'm not a professional, so maybe someone who really knows what they're doing can give you better ways to deal with it. This is just what has worked for me. Good luck! What causes a freshly painted wall to peel when dry.(.latex indoor paint by glidden)?
You may have used a latex paint (water based) over an oil based paint. The old ';water and oil don't mix'; axiom rings true here. Wait until it is completely dry, sand the walls, prep the surface a little better, prime and paint again. Talk with the folks in the paint dept at a home improvement store just to make sure.
Did you prime it before painting?
you did not prepare your serface correctly and you schould have run a sharp knife down the tape edge before peeling tape off.
you left the tape on to long
You didn't prep the walls properly. It is not the paints fault. The walls have to be clean and dry for any paint to stick.
I'll betcha the wall had been previously painted with an oil-based paint. Latex is water-based, and should never be used over an oil based paint for reasons you have just discovered.
Was the paint frozen (left out in a cold garage, for example)? That could have ruined it.

Possibly the surface was not prepared for painting (either the previous layer was not appropriate to receive latex paint, or there was too much grease or dirt on the wall). It would have had to be in really bad condition for this poor a result, however.
Most likely you tried to put a flat or satin over a gloss. You will need to use a primer (Kilz) first and then you can paint with a flatter style of paint over a gloss.
Improper preparation. Latex won't stick to a slick or dirty surface. You must sand or remove the underlying surface %26amp; make sure its clean %26amp; dry. You may also use a primer to cover the underlying surface %26amp; provide a better gripping surface for the latex.
you probably didnt prep the wall correctlyor you didnt use the correct primer for the paint
priming it would help...i don't know if you did or not, but humidity could have played a factor in your problem...call a local paint store ( or two) and ask them why this has happened and if there's a way to correct it...then the next time you paint you won't have to go through this again...good luck
either the wall was dirty (had grease or nicotine) or you put latex paint over oil base paint. You must use primer first.
If the wall was already painted and you're re-painting it, then most likely you used a different base paint. That is to say that you used oil based latex and the wall had water based paint on it, or, you used water based latex and the wall had oil based paint on it. One type won't stick to the other and they'll usually peel off after drying.
Most likely it's a ';prep'; problem -- either the wall wasn't completely clean or you didn't prime before you painted (or you used the wrong primer).

....it could be weather related, too. If it's really humid sometimes that can happen.

I had that happen once -- it's a LOT of work to re-do it. I feel for you.....
is there oil based paint under the latex?
Should first apply an undercoat/sealer, allow that to dry and then paint it with your latex topcoat.
When I bought paint this spring the salesman asked me if I had washed my walls. I was painting over a flat base paint. I told him it couldn't be washed easily but that I had vacuumed it. He said that in many cases if the area that you are painting is dirty the new paint will not adhere to the surface. So my question to you is this. Was the surface you painted dirty? The salesman also told me there is a product that you put on your wall before you paint to help your new paint stick. I hope this helps.l

Can one use glidden paint to paint a car?

so i was checkin out this site talking about giving away a quart of glidden paint..The webmaster was talking about that they're going to get a quart to repaint their truck. I know nothing about painting vehicles, so i don't know if you can paint a car using that type of paint. Please if someone knows more about painting cars explain to me. I would love to repaint my car but don't have the money to. If ya can't, i'll just keep my car rusty gray. Can one use glidden paint to paint a car?
Nothing is wrong with a rusty, grey car.

Painting a car with a brush NEVER looks good. It may look better than rust, but people are going to snicker, chuckle and mock the person that used house. wall or other paint on their car.

It could look good if you get several colors and make a unique design. Can one use glidden paint to paint a car?
